Create your first Matrix view
What this is about
You open the Matrix, pick a view, narrow the time range, and read the result. This guide walks through the most common case: “who posted how much and when over the last few months?”
How to do it
-
Open the Matrix
Click Matrix in the left-hand navigation. On the first visit you see the default view Sources over time over the last seven months — the color intensity of each cell shows how much every source posted in that month.
-
Pick a view
Open the Matrix button in the top right and pick one of the nine views under View. Good starting points:
- Sources over time — sources as rows, time as columns
- Topics over time — update tags as rows, time as columns
- Source tags and their topics — cross-tabulation of categories × topics, without a time axis
You can find an overview of all views with recommendations under Matrix views.
-
Set the time range and granularity
Under Time range you pick the granularity (day, week, month, quarter) and the period. The granularity determines how many columns the Matrix has and how finely activity is resolved.
For a trend view over several months, month is usually the right choice. For a current week-in-review, pick day or week.
-
Pick a metric
Under Metric you decide how the color intensity is calculated:
- Row share (default) — share of the row total. Highlights where a source had its focus.
- Total share — share of the entire view. Shows where anything is happening at all.
- Count — absolute numbers. For a sober look at raw frequency.
- Compared to reference period — Δ against a reference range. Green = more, red = less.
Details on all metrics: Matrix metrics.
-
Set filters (optional)
Open the Filters dropdown when you want to narrow the picture:
- Inbox / Saved — which folders count. Default is Inbox only.
- Ownership — your own sources only, or competitors only.
- Source — restrict to a specific source.
- Source tags and Update tags — restrict to categories or topics.
- Channel types — LinkedIn only, YouTube only, and so on.
- Search — full-text search in titles and content.
-
Read cells and open details
Hover over a cell — a tooltip shows the exact number. Click the cell to jump into the Unified Inbox and see the Updates that belong to that row and column.
-
Expand rows (in hierarchical views)
Views such as Sources and channels over time or Sources (grouped by categories) over time have subgroups. Click the triangle in front of a row name to expand or collapse the child rows.
Result
You now have a Matrix that shows how activity across your tracked sources is spread over the chosen period. Bright cells mark heavy activity, dark corners quiet. Clicking a cell takes you back to the Inbox — with the matching filter for the context.
