Why weren't any channels detected for my new source?

Short Answer

If no channels were detected, Picasi analyzed the website and did not find any linked or recognizable channels. An email address was created anyway—you can use that one. You can always add channels manually as well.

Details

Automatic channel discovery works well for companies that prominently link their social media channels on their website. Some companies do not do this, or their website is technically structured in such a way that Picasi cannot find the links.

Recognized URL Formats:

Picasi automatically recognizes these channel types, among others:

  • LinkedIn company pages and showcase pages
  • Facebook country-specific versions (e.g., de-de.facebook.com)
  • YouTube channel URLs, including those with path suffixes (e.g., /videos, /about)

If the company website contains links in these formats, the channels will be recognized during discovery.

Fallback chain for reachability issues:

Picasi tries to read the website in several stages:

  1. Direct HTTP fetch — the default path for reachable websites.
  2. Headless browser fallback — for JavaScript-heavy pages that don’t return a usable HTML snapshot without browser rendering.
  3. Wayback Machine fallback — uses an archived snapshot of the website when both the site itself and the browser fallback fail (for instance during short outages of the target site).

If the source shows no channels or only a few after creation, one of these stages may still have delivered the content — channel detection itself always depends on which channel links are actually present in the delivered HTML.

What you can do:

Manually search for the company’s channels. Go to LinkedIn, search for the company, and copy the profile URL. Do the same for YouTube. Then manually add these channels via Open Source → Channels → Add New Channel.

For newsletters, subscribe to the company’s newsletter using the automatically generated Picasi email address. You can find it in the source’s channel list.
