Dossiers — the document you hand on
The difference in one sentence
A report is an analysis inside the tool. A dossier is a document that leaves the house.
You read a report on screen or receive it by email. It has filters, a public link and a schedule, and its recipient is your own Workspace. A dossier has pages, a sender and a closing block. It is printed as a PDF and lands with someone who has never seen Picasi — your management, a client, a prospect.
Dossiers sits in the navigation next to Reports, with its own list, its own allowance and its own vocabulary.
What a dossier is built from
Three things, in this order:
The template. It is the blueprint: which sections the document has, which period it evaluates, which filters it requires. You do not create templates yourself — Picasi releases them for your Workspace.
Your selection. Period, sources, topic tags, plus a sentence on what the dossier should pay attention to. Whatever a template strictly needs, it asks for at creation — the source duel, for example, needs exactly two sources, because a duel without a second side is not one.
The data from your Inbox. A dossier is a snapshot. It sees the updates that lay in the chosen period at the moment of creation, and it keeps them. The Inbox moves on; the dossier does not.
What you can change and what you cannot
A dossier is not a text file where everything is open. What you can change is the interpretation — the TL;DR, the takeaway below a chart, the classification on a signal card, the closing block.
What stands fixed are the headings and the method text: they belong to the template and should read the same in every dossier. Fixed too are the quotes from the sources. They belong to the source — rewrite one and you print a claim as evidence.
The allowance counts separately
Dossiers have their own monthly counter, separate from the AI reports. What you produce as dossiers does not come off your report allowance.
Whatever goes over the allowance is still created — but delivered masked. More on that under Dossier allowance and masking.
What a dossier is not
- Not a report with a different layout. It appears in no report list, is not exported over MCP and does not count towards report statistics.
- Not a live view. If you need the current state, open the Inbox. The Data basis tab takes you there in one click.
- Not a mail merge. Scheduled dossiers do not exist yet. Until then you create them by hand.
